Everything is done!

I've turned in my documentary to Prof. Jones today and what a relief! This documentary involved a lot more work than expected, and I will never take the process for grated again.

Returning from break

We're back from break and the cameras have been turned in by the class. It's time to put the finishing touches on this documentary so I can turn it in and focus on the other things that must be completed before the end of the semester.

Going home

Going home for the holidays will be nice.  I will get to spend time with the family, and eat plenty of food.  Oh yeah and edit these videos, finish the script, and begin to put it all together.

Extension

Because we had another project due, Prof. Jones let the graduate students turn their project in a week later than expected.  Good thing too because I'm not sure if I was going to be able to finish it on time.

They've lost them all

The team has lost all of their games, and now I have to seriously think about going in another direction for this doc.  I wanted to be able to show at least one win, but that will be impossible now since I have to begin the editing process.

Stetson

After losing to Georgia Tech on Friday, the team has to turn around and come home to play Stetson.  I hope they will win and give me something to finish my doc on.  Otherwise the ending will be sad and leave many questions unanswered.

Georgia Bound

This weekend the team is headed to Atlanta to player Georgia Tech.  Since I have to work I will not be accompanying them, but I will use photos and other graphics to portray the events.

They lost to Albany State which means the whole story arc has changed.

First Game

Tonight is the first game, and I can hardly wait to shoot. FAMU is playing a division two school Albany State.  Should be a easy win for the Rattlers

Practice

So far this week I've been to practice every day including a weight training session on Tuesday.  Tomorrow morning I will meet with Issac Brown at his house to film him leaving for morning shoot around before tomorrow's game.  I have to wake up at 6:30, but I think it will be worth it in my doc. Thank goodness he lives right below me.

Saturday Practice

Filming this Saturday's practice was a success.  I had to do some things for the democrat afterword, but I think I got enough footage to hold me over until next week.

Coach Johnson Interview

The interview with coach Johnson was a great success.  I am scheduled to meet with the team this Saturday to film practice.  I think these two sessions will make up the first act of my documentary.

Cameras Received

We got our cameras today and my appointment to speak with coach Johnson is tomorrow. I'm excited to get started on this project

Everything is in place

Everything is in place, and I'm ready to shoot.  I've drafted a set of questions for Clemon Johnson and I've made an appointment to shoot with him the Friday after we get our cameras.

Test 1

Today we took test one in Specialized.  It was hard, but I expect nothing more from Prof. Jones.  He is truly one of the most influential figures since I've taken on the challenge of journalism.

More Chapters

Today in class we covered more chapters, and talked about videography reporting and editing.  Met one of the players today on campus randomly and told him about the doc.  He seemed excited.

Questions

I visited the Athletic Department today to find out what I need to do for the doc.  I have clearance as long as I forward all questions to Ronnie Johnson

Self-Study Paper

Today we were assigned our self-study paper. Also we covered the preliminary chapters of the book.  I think I will use the rest of today to think up some questions for Clemon Johnson's first interview.

Got The One I Wanted

Professor Jones has selected the Hard Knocks topic as the subject of my documentary. I am overjoyed at the news, and plan to immediately start to brainstorm ideas for how I want the story to be written. Though it isn't due until December, it is important to get started on it now.

Topic Pitch

Today I pitched the three topics discussed previously. I think I did a pretty good job (as did the rest of the class) in presenting our topics. Hopefully everyone will get to report on their first choice.

Topic

Professor Jones has tasked us with creating three story ideas to choose from for this class. My first idea (and the one I want to do the most) is Hard Knocks: FAMU Men's Basketball 2011. The next is a story about women's flag football in the area and the gender roles associated with the sport. My last topic (and least favorite) I tried to go away from sports and do a piece on politicians in the area and their personal lives. Many people don't know the people making decisions for them so I thought it would be interesting to cover these people.

Ready For This Documentary

I've started my last year as a graduate student at FAMU, and I can honestly say I miss it already. This specialized reporting class will help me as I look to complete my graduate project.
